It’s been a crazy busy week for me so far, and it’s only Tuesday hehe. Sometimes I get overwhelmed when there’s so much to do and I’m not moving as fast as I want to on my goals and absurd dreams. I tend to procrastinate until I gather momentum to keep going. I find it more productive to learn a skill I’m interested in during such times – pick up a good habit when I’d otherwise be wasting it watching cat videos on Youtube.. This one is a favourite, I’ve watched it about a hundred times.
So just yesterday, I started teaching myself how to use the manual settings on a friend’s Canon 600D aka the Canon Rebel T3i (can’t believe I actually know these things). These were all lessons I got online from Youtube videos and techie (geeky) forums.
Allow me to channel the Swahili in me, but ‘Mchagua jembe si mkulima’.
That loosely translates to, ‘The one (who is) choosy of (the) farm implements(to use) is not a true farmer’.
At first, my interest in photography was very shallow. I followed a couple of cool people on Instagram (lafrohemien is my favourite Kenyan instagrammer!) and aspired to have a perfect feed like theirs. Only to grow and want to develop and nurture my own ‘style’ by studying beautiful photos, and drawing lessons from them.
I’m one of those people who first got a smartphone reaaallly late, so when I got my Nexus 5 I was in phone photography heaven! I remember feeling so proud of myself when someone would comment on one of my Instagram pictures with, “What camera do you use?’, and I casually respond,’I just took this on my mobile phone’. 😀
Anyway, I was so excited and I practised over and over again until I kinda got the hang of it. I just kept snapping pictures of everything, and can’t wait to learn and shoot more! You’ll find me talking to myself absent mindedly, out loud, ‘ISO 200, Aperture 1/4’. And then there comes the excitement when I frame the shot I envisioned, ah bliss.
I’ve been writing so many official letters of late, that I was about to say ‘Please find attached’….. 😀
Hope you like the pictures.
Wishing you all a delicious day, thanks for reading!
