Seize the Day

2019 is here and to my utmost surprise, I find myself calm and very rational about things.

Equipped with new notebooks and stationery, I set out to be more practical with how I plan this year. The state of mind I choose to have in 2019 is not to think of it so much as new but more like progress. After reviewing my 2018 goals, I created an Annual ‘Road Map’, something I picked up from Monash which, in school is basically a diagram of the week and each day’s goal. My variation has space for about 5 targets to be clearly described for each month. It’s also helped me set some financial goals, like say for example taking a trip to Cape Town in April during the Easter holidays.

Curiously, besides wanting to get a new lens and tripod,ย the one thing I couldn’t see how it plays out in the future was this space..

I could think of a few reasons why; like maybe how I feel that I haven’t established myself in the blogging world. That one time I got nominated for Best Travel Blogger in 2017 was long time back. I’m not popular, and most times I’m happy with the privacy but other times I wonder if anyone really knows of my work. As a creative, progress is so important to me, so many at times it feels like I don’t know what I’m doing or where I’m going with it but I do know it brings me so much joy. It keeps me creative, having to learn new things, techniques, discover new places, discover myself. Become more, and do more. I religiously read each month’s Conde Naste Traveller magazine, cover to cover, and delve deep into the exquisite text and images. It transports me to another world, and I hope that is what this space can be for my readers.

These wonderful photos were taken by SLR Photos SA who reached out to me to collaborate on a street style photoshoot. I suggested The Marc as the venue, it has become one of my favourite places to hang out, with quiet coffee shops and restaurants in the heart of Sandton.

Go show them some love on their Facebook and Instagram pages @SLRPhotoSA, and while your at it find my social media handles at @pilgrimchic on Instagram and Facebook.

Let’s seize the day!

In My Time

All those in favour of forgetting how long it’s been since I put up a blog post and instead focus on the pictures I have to share today say I!

Where do I begin? Yes, it’s been more than three months since I wrote to you, my internet peeps. I come bearing gifts – photos, little nuggets of love and wisdom I’ve collected during my online absence.

Accepting there’s a time for everything

It seems like all the time I’ve got right now wants to be spent at school, or working. Let me correct that, not really want but need. I’ve been working overtime and weekends just trying to get my head wrapped around this thing called architecture.

It’s hard work, and we’re all about breaking stereotypes so let’s just say I will probably keep working overtime a lot more in the near future. Until I complete my MBA of course, then I’ll focus on starting a business, and settle down.

Anyone know where I can buy an extra 24 hours a day?

Introspection

That’s certainly not a new word on this site.

I have dreams that seem waaaaay out of my reach at times, and achievable during other times. I recently turned 28 and to be honest, I had to list down all my wins to put things in perspective and remember to be grateful for all that I have, and all that I’m working towards.

I’ve learnt to accept that some things in life take more time to show their benefits than others, and in the moments I feel tested, stretched beyond my limits, I’ve found that it’s so important to lean back, take a deep breath, pick up my journal and list what I’m grateful for. Writing down ideas that excite me and that I’d like to pursue has also been a great way to stay positive and focused.

I’ve also been polishing up my writing recently, reading loads of magazines and online journals to understand what makes text interesting to read. I’m a Contributing Writer at ThisIsEssential! It’s something I’m so grateful for, the ladies I’m working with are smart, independent women I look up to and admire. You absolutely must dash over to the site and read a few articles. Here’s one I wrote recently ๐Ÿ™‚

I took these photos on my birthday recently in my favourite outfit right now – a copper velvet kimono from Forever 21, copper jumpsuit from H&M and gold block heels from Aldo.
